Introduction

Dell TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card is a triple band GSM product, it enables wireless communication from your portable PC on all seven continents, in over one hundred and sixty countries. Dell TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card is very simple to install and use; the software provided allows you to select the best data service available so that the Dell TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card is always available for data transfer.

The Dell TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card enables your portable PC to:

  • Browse the Internet
  • Send and receive e-mails
  • Receive information services in real time
  • Access files, databases and discussion groups
  • Send and receive SMS text messages
  • Edit SIM card entries

Usage Recommendations

  • Always treat your product with care and keep it in a clean and dust-free place.
  • Do not expose your product to liquid, moisture or humidity.
  • Do not expose your product to extreme high or low temperatures.
  • Do not expose your product to open flames or lit tobacco products.
  • Do not drop, throw or try to bend your product.
  • Do not paint your product.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble your product. Only Dell authorized personnel should perform service.
  • Only use an antenna that has been specifically designed for your Dell TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card. Use of unauthorized or modified antennas could damage your Dell TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card.
  • Do not use your Dell TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card near medical equipment without requesting permission.
  • Turn your Dell TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card off in any facility where posted notices so require.
  • You MUST remove your Dell TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card before boarding any aircraft. To prevent interference with communication systems and abide by the law, you must not use your Dell TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card while the plane is in the air. Do not use it on the ground without permission from the crew.
  • Do not touch the SIM card connectors. As a precaution, always make sure that the Dell TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card is already in your hand before you insert or remove the SIM card.
  • Do not remove the SIM.

Hardware Overview

Dell TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card is a standard 16 bit type II PC card. It is standard length and only the antenna protrudes outside the PC card slot.

The amount of power drawn from the portable PC battery is dependent upon a number of factors including status, frequency band, distance to GSM base station and number of timeslots used. See See Technical Specifications for a general guide to power consumption.

Before you can start using Dell TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card you need to assemble the hardware. You will need to supply your own SIM card for use with the Dell TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card.

SIM Card

When you subscribe to a mobile network operator, you are issued with a SIM card (Subscriber Identity Module card). The SIM contains your personal subscriber data.


Software Overview

TrueMobile GPRS Manager

You can use TrueMobile GPRS Manager to:

  • Display Dell TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card status information
  • Create or modify connection settings
  • Connect to the Internet or a corporate network
  • Manage Dell TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card settings
  • Manage SIM card and PC phone books
  • Send and receive SMS messages
