Dell performs the installation and setup on DVD+R/RW
drives that are shipped as part of a system, including loading the appropriate
device drivers when the operating system is installed. The drive is ready for
use when you receive your system. No further installation or configuration is
necessary.
Connectors and Controls
The connectors are located as shown below. The function of each part is also
described below. (The actual drive may be different from this design.)
Disc Tray
Emergency Eject
Busy Indicator
Eject Button
Digital Audio Output Connector
Analog Audio Output Connector
Jumper Connector
IDE Interface Connector
Power Connector
Disc Tray
This is the tray for the disc. Place the disc on the ejected disc tray, then
lightly push the tray (or push the eject button) and the disc will be mounted.
Do not use force to pull out or push in the disc tray.
This might cause damage to the loading mechanism of the drive.
Busy Indicator
This indicator lights green when a disc is mounted in the drive. When the
disc is being accessed, it flashes or lights green. If a disc is not mounted,
the indicator does not light even when the power is turned on. When an illegal
disc is loaded or some hardware trouble occurs, the indicator blinks.
Eject Button
This is the button used to eject or close the disc tray.
Emergency Eject Hole
The drive has a function that allows a disc to be ejected manually when in an
emergency such as failure of the drive or a power outage (graphic
used for illustrative purposes only).
This feature is to be used only in an emergency. Using it excessively
may cause a malfunction.
Turn the power to OFF.
Insert a fine tipped object into the emergency eject hole (Object
should be less than 1.5mm in diameter and more than 45mm in length).
The front door pops open and the disk tray comes partway out.
Pull the front door to open it all the way, then grip the disc tray
between thumb and forefinger and gently pull it straight out.
Digital
Audio Output Connector
Not Used
Analog Audio Output Connector
Provides output to a sound card (Analog signal).
Jumper Connector
This jumper determines whether the drive is configured as a master or
slave. Changing the master-slave configuration takes effect after power-on
reset.
Dell Factory default setting is Cable select.
IDE
Interface Connector
Connect to the IDE (Integrated Device Electronics)
interface using a 40-pin or 80-pin flat IDE cable.
Do not connect or disconnect the cable when the power is on, as
this could cause a short circuit and damage the system. Always turn the
power OFF when connecting or disconnecting the cable.
Power Connector
Connects to the power supply (5 and 12 V DC) of the host
computer.
Be careful to connect in the proper way. Connecting the wrong way
may damage the system.
Compatibility:
Because Compact Disc do not perform error correction and detect alteration at
writing, written data may have error. We recommend that you verify the written
disc if you are writing important data as the data written is not guaranteed.
