Installing the Drive | Device Drivers


DellTM Installed Drives

Dell performs the installation and setup on any DVD±R/RW drive that is shipped as part of a system, including loading the appropriate device drivers when the operating system is installed. The drive is ready for use when you receive your system. No further installation or configuration is necessary.


Installing the Drive

Drives Purchased Separately as Customer Kits

Installing the DVD±R/RW drive

  1. Remove the DVD±R/RW drive from its packaging.
  2. Turn off the power to your computer and unplug the power cord.
  3. Remove the cover, face plate and clips or brackets used to secure internal devices. Please refer to your system documentation for more information.
  4. If you are replacing an existing drive, determine whether your old drive has an IDE interface, then disconnect and remove the old drive from the system.
  5. Verify that the jumper is set to CSEL (Cable Select). The jumper is located at the Jumper Connector.
  6. Locate the secondary IDE connector on the system motherboard.
  7. Using the IDE cable provided with the system, connect the drive’s IDE Interface Connector to the existing secondary IDE connector.
  8. Connect the audio cable between the DVD±R/RW drive’s Analog Audio Connector and the sound card or the system motherboard (if necessary).
  9. Connect the power cable to the Power Connector of the DVD±R/RW drive.
  10. Close your system case by re-installing the cover and face plate (which were removed in step 3). Please refer to your system documentation for more information.

Device Drivers

When using Windows 2000 or Windows XP, no special device driver is required.
