Drive is not recognized by system.
  1. Re-insert all cables and connectors. Verify jumper-pin settings. Refer to Section 4-Installing the Drive for more details.
Cannot play or read CD-ROM, read or write CD-R, CD-RW, DVD±R, or DVD±RW in the drive.
  1. Check to see if the disc is inserted upside-down.
  2. Try another disc. If this disc plays or writes, verify if the original disc is dirty or badly scratched. You may attempt to clean/restore the disc per the disc manufacturer’s recommendations.
  3. Did a screen saver or other application operate while writing to the disc? If so, try again with application turned off.
  4. Is there enough free space on the CD-R/RW or DVD±R/RW disc?
  5. Was the drive or disc recently moved from a low temperature environment to a high temperature environment? (There is a possibility of condensation on the lens in the drive or on the surface of the disc.) If so, try again after 15 min.
When playing an audio CD, the CD player shows that the disc is playing, but no sound is heard through the speakers.
  1. The drive's play mode may need to be set to "Digital." In Windows XP, for example, use the Control Panel and open "System" and then "Hardware." Start Device Manager and in "CD-ROM drives," double-click on the entry for the drive, then click on the "Properties" tab. Check the box marked "Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device."
  2. The CD player application may need to be set to "Digital." In Windows Media Player, for example, from the menu bar click on "Tools," then "Options," and then click on the "Device" tab. Select the drive and click on the "Properties" button. Set the playback mode to "Digital."
Disc tray cannot be opened.
  1. Shut down the system. Wait for 1 minute before powering the system back on. Press the eject button.
  2. Shut down the system. Insert a fine-tipped object no shorter than 4.5 cm in length and 1.3 mm in diameter (such as a stiff paper clip) into the Emergency Eject Hole. The disc tray will come partway out. Grip the front of the disc tray by thumb and forefinger and pull it out fully.

Disc tray cannot be closed.
  1. If the tray will not close by pressing the eject button while the power is on, please turn the power off and wait. After one minute, turn the power on. The tray will automatically close. Finally, please check the tray will open/close appropriately by pressing the eject button.
