Removing the Fan

CAUTION: Before you begin the following procedure, follow the safety instructions in the Product Information Guide.
NOTICE: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal surface, such as the back panel on the computer.
  1. Follow the instructions in Before Working Inside Your Computer.

  2. Remove the palm rest (see Removing the Palm Rest).

  3. Disconnect the fan connector from the system board connector.

  4. Remove the two M2.5 x 5-mm screws from the fan.

  5. Remove the fan.

Replacing the Fan

  1. Align the screw holes on the fan with the holes on the base of the computer.

  2. Replace the two M2.5 x 5-mm screws to secure the fan to the base of the computer.

  3. Connect the fan connector to the system board connector.

  4. Replace the palm rest (see Replacing the Palm Rest).
