Removing the Base Assembly Cover
Follow the procedures in Before Working on Your Computer .
Close the display and turn the computer upside down.
Remove the two M2 x 3-mm screws.
Slide the cover toward the front of the computer to release the tabs from
the base assembly.
Remove the cover from the base assembly.

Replacing the Base Assembly Cover
Align the tabs with the slots on the base assembly.
Slide the cover toward the back of the computer to engage the tabs and
firmly attach the cover to the base assembly.
Replace the M2 x 3-mm screws.
Follow the procedures in After Working on Your Computer .
Removing the Base Assembly

Remove the base assembly cover (see Removing the Base Assembly
Cover ).
Remove the primary hard drive (see Removing the Primary Hard Drive
(HDD1) ) and the secondary hard drive (see Removing the Secondary Hard
Drive (HDD2) ).
Remove the optical drive (see Removing the Optical Drive ).
Remove the LED cover (see Removing the LED Cover ).
Remove the keyboard (see Removing the Keyboard ).
Remove the display assembly (see Removing the Edge-to-Edge Display or
Removing the Display Assembly ).
Remove the palm rest (see Removing the Palm Rest Assembly ).
Remove the fan (see Removing the Fan ).
Remove the processor heatsink assembly (see Removing the Processor
Heatsink Assembly ).
Remove the video card/heatsink assembly (see Removing the Video
Card/Heatsink Assembly ).
Remove the card cage (see Removing the Card Cage ).
Remove the left I/O board (see Removing the Left I/O Board ).
Remove the right I/O board (see Removing the Right I/O Board ).
Remove the system board (see Removing the System Board ).
Replacing the Base Assembly
Replace the system board (see Replacing the System Board ).
Replace the right I/O board (see Replacing the Right I/O Board ).
Replace the left I/O board (see Replacing the Left I/O Board ).
Replace the card cage (see Replacing the Card Cage ).
Replace the video card/heatsink assembly (see Replacing the Video
Card/Heatsink Assembly ).
Replace the processor heatsink assembly (see Replacing the Processor
Heatsink Assembly ).
Replace the fan (see Replacing the Fan ).
Replace the palm rest (see Replacing the Palm Rest Assembly ).
Replace the display assembly (see Replacing the Edge-to-Edge Display or
Replacing the Display Assembly ).
Replace the keyboard (see Replacing the Keyboard ).
Replace the LED cover (see Replacing the LED Cover ).
Replace the optical drive (see Replacing the Optical Drive ).
Replace the primary hard drive (see Replacing the Primary Hard Drive
(HDD1) ) and the secondary hard drive (see Replacing the Secondary Hard
Drive (HDD2) ).
Replace the base assembly cover (see Replacing the Base Assembly Cover ).
Follow the procedures in After Working on Your Computer .
NOTE: If you use a BIOS update program disc to flash the BIOS, press <F12> before inserting the disc in order to set the computer to boot from the disc for one time only. Otherwise, you must enter the system setup program to change the default boot order.
Flash update the BIOS (see Flashing the BIOS for more information).
Enter the system setup program to update the BIOS on the new system
board with the computer Service Tag. For information on the system setup
program, see the Dell Technology Guide at support.dell.com .
