Removing the Primary Hard Drive (HDD1)
CAUTION: Before working inside your computer, read the safety information that

CAUTION: Do not touch the metal housing of the hard drive if you remove the hard
drive from the computer while the drive is hot.
NOTICE: To prevent data loss, turn off your computer before removing the hard
drive. Do not remove the hard drive while the computer is on or in Sleep state.
NOTICE: Hard drives are extremely fragile. Exercise care when handling the hard
drive.
Loosen the two captive screws on the HDD1 carrier, and remove the
carrier.
Push in, then pull up on the safety loop to remove the cover.

Use the pull tab to disconnect the HDD1 from the connector on the
system board, and remove the HDD1 from the computer.

Remove the two M3 x 3-mm screws that secure the pull tab to the HDD1.
Set the pull tab aside to use with the replacement HDD1.

NOTICE: Hard drives are extremely fragile. Exercise care when handling the hard
drive.
NOTICE: Use firm and even pressure to slide the hard drive into place. Excessive
force may result in damage to the connector.
Attach the pull tab you removed in step 7 of the removal procedure to the
new HDD1.
Place the HDD1 in the computer, and slide the HDD1 into the connector
on the system board.
Replace the cover on the HDD1 and tighten the two captive screws.
Install the operating system, drivers, and utilities for your computer, as
needed. For more information, see the Setup and Quick Reference Guide
that shipped with your computer or at support.dell.com.
Removing the Secondary Hard Drive (HDD2)

drive from the computer while the drive is hot.

NOTE: The secondary hard drive is optional. If you did not order a secondary hard drive, the carrier will contain an interposer board.
Remove the two M3 x 3-mm screws that secure the carrier to the
computer.
Pull up on the pull tab to remove the carrier.

Remove the two M3 x 3-mm screws that secure the carrier to the HDD2.
Remove the carrier from the HDD2. If your computer does not have an
HDD2, remove the hard drive place-holder from the carrier.
Remove the interposer from the HDD2 or the place-holder, and set the
interposer aside.
Replacing the Secondary Hard Drive (HDD2)

Connect the interposer you removed in step 7 of the removal procedure to
the new HDD2.
Snap the carrier onto the HDD2 ensuring the two fit securely together.
Replace the two M3 x 3-mm screws that secure the HDD2 to the carrier.
Slide the posts on the carrier into the slots on the base assembly, then
lower the HDD2 into place.
Replace the two M3 x 3-mm screws that secure the HDD2 to the
computer.
Install the operating system, drivers, and utilities for your computer, as
