Pre-removal steps:

During installation or removal of any hardware, always turn off the computer and ensure that all data is backed up properly.
Disconnect any telephone, network, and USB cables from the computer.
Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets.
Remove the computer cover.
Remove the top shielding.
Remove the processor fan.

Whenever opening the computer, lay it flat with the LCD facing down on a soft towel or surface that will not scratch the glass face. The foam inserts from the computer packaging can be used to protect the glass face of the LCD. A cleaning/wipe cloth was included with the computer originally that can be used for this purpose.

1. Loosen the four captive screws securing the lower end of the processor heat sink.

Loosen the four captive screws securing the lower end of the CPU heat sink.

2. Remove the two screws securing the upper end of the processor heat sink.

Remove the two screws securing the upper end of the CPU heat sink.

3. Shift the processor heat sink towards the bottom of the computer.

Shift the CPU heat sink towards the bottom of the system.

4. Remove the processor heat sink.

NOTE: When installing the heat sink, perform steps in reverse order. When tightening screws, screw the first half way down. Screw the other three screws into place before tightening the first screw all the way.
