QWhy recycle?
A
There is a growing concern about the environmental impact of old computers, computer parts and other electronic products. Recycling is essential to prevent the breakdown of hardware sent to landfill and leading of dangerous toxins into soil and waterways.

Dell Recycling can ensure your old computers and computer-related devices won't end up in landfill causing harm. We'll make sure all recycled computers and electronics are disposed of safely and legally.

QWhat products do we recycle?
AWe recycle any make or model of computer, notebook, monitor, printer and peripheral device. This includes Dell non-branded equipment (charges apply).

QWhat is a unit?
AA unit is a system box, monitor, laptop or printer. Keyboards, mice, cables and accessories are included with the unit and not counted as additional units. A typical desktop personal computer is two units; a cpu (central processing unit) and a monitor.

QCan I recover value from my computer?
AYes. Some late model equipment does retain a resale value. To obtain estimates based on existing market conditions, please contact Dell Recycling on 1800 465 890 or email recycling_dell_au@dell.com.

QCan I drop equipment off?
AYes. Equipment can be left at locations in Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland and Wellington. Drop-off is available from 9am to 5pm from Monday to Friday. Please contact Dell Recycling on 1800 465 890 or email recycling_dell_au@dell.com for booking and pre-payment.

QWill Dell pick up my equipment?
ADell can pick up your unwanted equipment from your preferred location. Pick-ups are available from 9am to 5pm from Monday to Friday. Dell will specify packaging requirements at time of booking.

QHow will my equipment be recycled?
AEquipment that cannot be reused is dismantled for recycling at EPA licensed and ISO certified facilities. As a result, on average approximately 97% is diverted to landfill.

  • Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) monitors are disassembled, separating the leaded glass from the unleaded. Circuit boards, steel and plastics are streamed with similar materials.
  • Printed Circuit Boards are separated and streamed depending on the capacity to recover precious metals. Batteries are manually removed from boards and separated for processing.
  • Copper cable. Copper is recovered and PVC coatings recycled within Australia.
  • Aluminium and Ferrous Scrap. Computer and telecommunications peripherals are manually broken down into their constituent parts to recover these materials.
  • Plastics. Recycled through Australian Composite Technology facilities in Melbourne.
  • Batteries. Batteries are collected and shipped to a central location for sorting and recycling at a licensed facility in Australia or France.

Breakage. Particularly high value items are separated and refined separately as detailed. Other components of computers and electronic devices are processed to recover copper, aluminium and resaleable items such as cooling fans, castors and power supplies. Some low value processed scrap is exported for more cost effective processing.
